House Description
This restored Black House, perched on rocks beside a secluded white sand beach, is reached only by a 150m scramble along the Portuairk to Sanna footpath. It is a unique experience for the adventurous, for the nature lover and for those seeking seclusion. It comprises: open plan kitchen / living room, with one double sofa bed and one single folding chair bed, multi-fuel stove, electric cooker, fridge, shower room with toilet. There is no cleaning between lets (too remote) and it is essential to arrive in daylight
Welcome to Ardnamurchan.
To find Rubh Dubh: drive into Kilchoan and at the T-junction in the middle of the village turn right and follow the road towards the Lighthouse. Drive past the Sonachan Hotel, straight through Achosnich (ignoring the turning to the left leading to the Lighthouse), across the cattle grid and down the steep winding hill to Portuairk. At the bottom of the hill continue straight ahead (ignoring for the moment the turning to the right); the second house on the right after the red phone box belongs to Alastair & Janet MacColl and here you will find the front door key for Rudh Dubh (or if necessary you can phone Janet on 01972 510 318). Then return to the foot of the hill, turn left, and park at the very end of the road to unload. As this is a turning place, you must then drive back to the foot of the hill and park off the road on the wide verge there. Walk down the path through the trees to the water, cross the stream, using the footbridge if necessary. Follow the path over the shoulder of the hill which brings you directly to the path down to the Rudh Dubh.
Change over day is a Friday. The property is available from 4pm. on the holiday start date until noon on the finish date. Improvements since last Season, brought about by the introduction of Mains Electricity, , have included a Refrigerator, Cooker, and much needed Lighting. This was done primarily to remove the danger posed by careless use of candles, the house had been suffering more of this, and we hope it will enhance your stay.
Enough Coal to light solid-fuel stove is provided but Wood can be gathered and small bags of Coal may be bought at the Shop.
As no linen is provided it is therefore necessary for you to bring single duvet covers and sheets, pillowcases, towels, tea towels and bath mat.
Electricity is charged at cost, see House Notes on arrival for the details.
You are respectfully reminded that any damages must be reported and paid for.
Please contact Alastair or Janet if there are any problems or if necessary, the Steading Holidays office on 01972 510 262.

We do hope that you relax, unwind and enjoy your stay in this part of the world.
