Built by the renowned
Stevenson Family, from pink granite quarried on the Ross of Mull,
these two properties form the south side of the inner courtyard
that surrounds the tower.
Built at the same time as
the tower, these buildings are the original homes of the lighthouse
keepers and their families. After falling into a state of disrepair
in the years since automation thay have now been fully restored.
The cottage now offer a unique 'lifestyle' experience for the
self-catering visitor.Available for rent throughout the
year, the cottage is superbly furnished and with full 'total
control' heating are warm and comfortable even in the wildest
of weather. The panoramic views of the Hebrides
are unsurpassed and the surrounding area abounds in wildlife.
Otters, seals, porpoises and Minke whales are regularly seen
in the seas below the cottages. While the skies overhead are
frequented by a huge variety of birdlife, including golden and
sea eagles. Both Red and Roe deer graze nearby and pine martens
and wildcats have been spotted by recent visitors to the cottages.
- Nearby, the beaches at Sanna and
Portuairk offer beautiful white sands and safe bathing in the
crystal clear waters of the Minch.
