Steading Holidays Arrival Information
This sheet should
give you most of the information that you need for your arrival to
Ardnamurchan. However, there are one or two points to bear in mind. The last 27
miles (from Strontian to Kilchoan) are single-track road, beautiful, but with
many bends and necessarily slow. When driving on single-track roads please
remember: passing places are indicated with signs, and must be used to
permit oncoming traffic to proceed and to allow following traffic to overtake. Always
stay on the left-hand side of the road when using passing places. No one
minds how slowly anybody else drives along these roads, so long as they pull in
to allow following vehicles to pass: always be aware that the car behind could
contain a doctor or a member of one of the emergency services. Never park
in passing places (however beautiful the view might be!): they are not
viewpoints.
Your journey to Ardnamurchan:
Coming from
the South there are two routes: one is to follow the A74 Glasgow/Stirling and
take the M9 for Perth, then take Exit 11 to Doune/Crianlarich.
Alternatively,
you can cross Glasgow (by motorway and the Erskine Bridge) and drive up the
shores of Loch Lomond on the A82 to Crianlarich.
From
Crianlarich continue north on the A82, following the signs for Fort William.
Two miles after you have crossed over the Ballachulish Bridge turn left for the
Corran Ferry. (It is advisable to fill up with fuel prior to this as the
Kilchoan shop and pumps are closed on Sundays). Coming off the ferry, turn left
and head for Salen on the A861, and then turn left again, taking the B8007 to
Kilchoan. Please try and leave yourself plenty of time for this part of the
journey: it takes at least an hour and a half once you have crossed the
Corran Ferry.
To find the
Steading Holidays Office: just after you come into Kilchoan there is a Hotel on
your left and then a Church on your right. 300 yards further on take the
turning to your right at the sign for Steading Holidays. The Office is normally
staffed seven days a week, but you are not obliged to check in and thus are
asked to find your own way to your holiday home.
